If this is life...

So many people seem to change at the snap of a finger, and it is one of the worse feelings to witness this. I know they are not like that, but they feel it necessary to manipulate themselves to appease those around them. How sick, and sad.

"No one can ever truly be happy." - A classmate.
Someone said that today at lunch, and it just really made me think. People are always fussing about their bodies and the parts they wish were smaller, bigger, toner, longer, shorter, or any such adjective. Of course, their is always their quality of life to think about. Money? Sure, it is a preconceived notion that everyone wants more of it and that it is the link to happiness, but, at least I hope, we all know that is not true. A significant other is also a reason to be happy or not. Most people just like to complain on that subject. Either they do not have one or they are not happy with the one they are with. I feel that is rare to find someone truly happy with their relationship status. Those without a boy/girlfriend pine over the ones they have lost, the ones they could not get, or the ones that lost them. Those with a boy/girlfriend always nitpick the other person, talking heavily about their flaws, misconceptions, bad habits, ideas, anything that will make it seem as if they are not happy, because that is apparently what they want to get across: They are not happy.
Why?
People feel as if their is always more and that their current state does not and cannot ever express the life that has formulated in their head.

"What is happiness?" - A Philosophical question brought up by a friend.
How do you measure a feeling like that? It is akin to describing the feeling of love, of any feeling actually. It is always different, no matter the person. Someone people could enjoy the company of family, while others prefer a good book. Chocolate ice cream could give it to some people, while other people prefer a cold winter night. It is hard to define it; it is hard to put such limits on such a profound feeling.
